I enjoy watching Sam Adams Beer television commercials because it seems like so many of the people on their staff are actively involved at home with learning how to brew beer at home. It tells me they like beer and they like the process. Sometimes they show video clips of silly things happening in the kitchen during the brew making.

It will take you about 2 weeks from the day you start your batch before you get to drink the finished produce when you brew beer at home, so you might want to keep some on hand to carry you and your buddies through the process in great spirits.

History tells us that beer has been around for a long long time and the original beer was most likely a homemade accident. Leave the barley sitting around, it gets wet, yeast contaminates it and sits for a while and starts to ferment and bingo there is the early version of beer brewed at home. At least so the story goes.

The main ingredients for beer include malted barley, hops, yeast and water. It is that simple.  Yet Sam Adams boasts of all these different flavors and then there are ales and lagers too.  These differences come about because of slight variations in the contents, like a different kind of barley or some herbs or spices added for flavor and then there are the variations in temperature that can result in different flavor beers as well.

See how much fun you can have once you learn to brew beer at home. You can try out all sorts of recipes from online or from history books and be creative.
